My name ist Dieter Schwinkendorf (67). I am living in Rostock (Germany) with my wife Inge. Rostock is an important harbour-city at the baltic sea.
2005 I have been for the first time at Schwinkendorf. The village is situated approx. 80 km south of Rostock and aprox. 160 km north of Berlin. On a german map you will find it in the middle between the 3 small cities of Teterow, Waren and Malchin in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
On the graveyard I found gravestone with the name 'Schwinkendorf'.
I became curious, because I knew from my father that also the ancestors of our family originated from the surroundings of Schwinkendorf.
I started my search. At the internet I found aprox. 150 hints of Schwinki`s in Germany. Amongst them at least one family Schwinkendorf (Wilhelm, Anna and doughter) emigrated to The States in 1867. In that connection I found some 80 hints of Schwinki`s in the USA. That means the name is comparatively seldom. With other words, most probably all we Schwinki´s are related.
How do we come together (the project)
First of all I would like to contact by Internet as many Schwinki`s as possible and connect each one. I like to search about our birth origin, descent and wide-spread.
All Schwinki´s should furnish me with full name, date of birth and the degree of relationship to other Schwinki´s you might know. Very important are all data of ancestors. I shall gether the reported data and of course, everyone of you will be copied with the obtained results.
It would be great, if I could get some assistance for this job. I would be glad, if specially in Germany as many as possible Schwinki´s could help me to obtain information of our ancestors in the 17th and 18th century. On the other hand, any assistance from The States is highly wellcome, because you possess many databanks , which could be approached more easely from that end.
To begin with, I´ll send a few e-mails to Schwinki´s in The States and Germany. Please try to inform all Schwinki´s you may know upon this project.
I hope many Schwinki´s join me, so that a large genealogical tree could be created.
